Jeff Bridges takes over for John Wayne in the Coen Brothers' adaptation of a Western classic, in which a plucky teenage girl hires gruff U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn to track down the man who killed her father. And whether Rooster likes it or not, young Mattie is determined to accompany him on the manhunt to make sure he gets the job done. Joined by a Texas Ranger (Matt Damon) looking for the same man, the trio ventures into the wilds of Indian Territory in search of justice, vengeance, and their own "grit."

  1. The Coen Bros. are no strangers to the big show: True Grit was nominated for 10 Academy Awards.
  2. Grit goes overseas: True Grit was named opener of the 61st Annual Berlin International Film Festival.
  3. Déjà vu: this is second film adapted from Charles Portis' 1968 novel 'True Grit'. The first version, starring John Wayne, was released in 1969.
  4. Two Roosters, two Oscar nods: John Wayne won the Oscar for Best Actor for portraying Rooster Cogburn. 41 years later, Jeff Bridges earned an Oscar nomination for playing the same role.
  5. Just call him Jeff "Back-to-Back" Bridges: This was Bridges' second consecutive Oscar nomination for Best Actor. He won the previous year for his role in Crazy Heart - in which he also sported a cowboy hat (sans eyepatch).

  8. Does this kid have a sense of humor or what?! Ethan Coen's 15-year old son Buster worked on the film as the script supervisor's assistant. When asked what credit he wanted in the film, Buster chose "Matt Damon's Abs Double".
  9. Family-friendly Grit: True Grit was the Coen Bros' first PG-13 movie since Intolerable Cruelty in 2003.
  10. Table for four, please. The restaurant Rooster mentions to Mattie, The Green Frog, actually exists! It's located in Jacksboro Texas.
