You don't get much bigger than Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe. And the 1961 drama The Misfits features the very last performances of both of these cinematic icons. Monroe plays Roslyn Tabor, an emotionally damaged divorcé who befriends a group of drifters in Reno, including an aging cowboy (Clark Gable), a heartbroken mechanic (Eli Wallach) and a worn-out rodeo rider (Montgomery Clift). The relationships examined in this film are almost as complex as the ones behind the scenes. The screenplay, written by Marilyn's estranged husband Arthur Miller, captures Monroe's real-life struggle to simultaneously escape from and connect with the world. And Gable and Monroe seem to fill each scene with their true personalities, making for an even more fascinating character study. Bottom line, The Misfits is a must-see for any fan of these old Hollywood icons.
