When Uncle Finlay rules that there shall be no more marrying of first cousins on the island of Beigg, his nephew Ewan McEwan is sent to the mainland to find a wife. He sets out for Oban with ten commandments of the 'thou shall not' sort, and soon becomes involved in a hilarious series of misadventures of mistaken identity and frenzied pursuit.
