The Brady Bunch Movie

PG-13 1995 | 89 mins | Family
Whether you know all the words to "It's a Sunshine Day" or you've never been too sure which one's Bobby and which one's Peter, this send-up of the beloved bunch we call Brady is sure to please. When it was released in 1995, the idea was "what if the ultimate '70s family lived in today's world?" But some fifteen years later, the film becomes a parody of both the '70s and the '90s. That's a 2-for-1 deal so good you'll feel just like Alice scoring a free rump roast from Sam the butcher.

Top 10 Fun Facts

  1. You are now entering The Brady Zone: when the Bradys are at home, the lighting and camera angles mimic the sitcom format of the original series. But when they go out into the "real" world, the cinematography becomes more contemporary. Far out!
  2. After Carol tells Mike to "Go get 'em, Tiger," she wonders to herself "Whatever happened to that dog?" Our best guess: he's chewing on that big rawhide in the sky with Jed Clampett's bloodhound Duke and Lassies 2, 3 and 4.
  3. Pork chops and applesauce alert: Peter may not say his infamous catchphrase during the film, but keep your eyes peeled for a very specific dinner menu on the kitchen blackboard.
  4. Many of the show's original cast members make cameos in the movie, including Ann B. Davis (the original Alice) as a trucker named Schultzy. An eighteen-wheeler is a big responsibility for a woman accustomed to driving a vacuum cleaner.
  5. Through the looking glass: Christopher Knight (the original Peter) stops two boys from picking on movie-Peter, while Barry Williams (the original Greg) gives movie-Greg a thumbs-down on his singing career.
  6. Florence "Mrs. Brady" Henderson appears as the Brady kids' grandmother. Grandma, schmandma! She doesn't look old enough to be anybody's Nana - must be all that Wesson oil.
  7. Davy Jones, Marcia's beloved prom date from the original series, shows up in the film as a judge at the "Search for the Stars" contest - alongside his fellow Monkees Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork. Dreamy times three!
  8. Attention to detail: just like on the show, Marcia and Greg attend Westdale High School. If you want your kids to be their Brady-est, send them to Taft High in Woodland Hills, CA - where the school scenes were filmed.
  9. In the movie, safety monitor Bobby throws the book at his teacher Mrs. Whitfield for stealing school supplies. In real life, "Mrs. Whitfield" was the name of the teacher responsible for on-set tutoring during the run of the original series.
  10. The producers of the film had hoped to shoot at the original home in Studio City used as Chez Brady in the TV series, but the current owner refused to restore the house to its 1969 appearance. Somebody should've told that guy AstroTurf never goes out of style.
