Two sailors - Puncher, ex-lightweight boxing champion of the Navy and a simple sort of chap, and Knocker, the 'bright' boy of the ship - go ashore when HMS Gillingham puts into Naples. A complex chapter of accidents leads to a situation in which Puncher, his period of leave expired, is obliged to smuggle a six- month-old baby boy back on ship - with hilarious consequences.
