1. Boldly going where no man in drag has gone before, this film marks Tyler Perry's first role in a motion picture that is not one of his own projects.
2. Originally slated to be released on December 25, 2008, the first teaser trailer and posters for the film bear that date. Paramount pushed the release of the film to May 8, 2009 to have less competition, be a contender for a summer blockbuster contender, and, in space, no one can hear you sing Christmas Carols.
3. In Search Of...Leonard Nimoy, the actor, who has not appeared in a live action film role since 1991's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. I'm guessing all his offers of roles in between just didn't have enough Spock in them.
4. The film marks the first time Uhura's first name, Nyota, is mentioned on screen. Filmgoers will have to wait to hear her middle name, which just may be Obama.
5. When it came time to cast Nero, J.J. Abrams insisted on either Russell Crowe or Eric Bana. Seems like J.J. has a thing for rugged Australian men...
6. It has been 7 years since the last Star Trek film, the longest break between movies in the franchise history. Long enough for the original Enterprise's five-year mission to start, end, be missed, spawn conventions, and become a cartoon series.
7. Simon Pegg, as Scotty, filmed his entire role in just 5 weeks. And as Scotty, he said he couldn't possibly do it that fast, Captain, it would take him at least 15 weeks, but he magically pulled it off in the nick of time.
8. The character of Captain Pike appears in this film and was also in the original unaired pilot of the TV Series. The unaired pilot scenes were later interwoven into an episode during the first run of the show. If Pike's luck continues, he may be cut entirely out of the film and be interwoven into the DVD extras someday.
9. This marks the first time the original series' characters will not be portrayed by the original actors, except for the character of Spock, who will be portrayed in at least one scene by Leonard Nimoy. I'm hoping Spock's ears will also be played by Nimoy at all parts of the film, digitally superimposed over Zachary Quinto's head.
10. The late James Doohan played Scotty in the original Star Trek series. His son, Christopher, had a cameo in the new Star Trek as the new Scotty's assistant. Although some say he was really hoping to be in the big screen movie version of M.A.S.H. instead.
