Mary Fisher (Meryl Streep) is beautiful, rich and thin. Ruth Patchett (Roseanne Barr) is homely, middle-class and overweight. Mary and Ruth have absolutely nothing in common – at least not until Mary begins a torrid affair with Ruth's husband. After Bob abandons Ruth, she doesn't just get mad; she decides to get even. Thus begins this hilarious and satiric tale about the trails and tribulations of contemporary life.
