Saw VI

R 2009 | 90 mins | Horror

Even if you missed the first five Saw movies, don't worry - you can jump right into this sixth installment without missing a beat just by knowing a few simple truths: People are flawed. Flaws require lessons. Lessons involve pain. And blood. And sharp instruments of all shapes and sizes. Despite the fact that the Jigsaw Killer met his untimely demise several films ago, his legacy looms large as others seek to fulfill his twisted world view. And if you thought the "Shotgun Collar" and "Needle Pit" were awesomely gross, wait until you see the fiery fun of the "Steam Room."

Top 10 Fun Facts

  1. Think it's tough to keep a franchise fresh in its sixth installment? Saw VI mixed it up with several firsts. For example, this is the first time in the series that a game uses digital timers on body-worn traps. Innovative, yet disturbing!
  2. Another first: this is the first time we've seen Jigsaw using a pre-recorded video to deliver the rules of a game (He pretty much had to, what with the whole "being dead" thing).
  3. While Jigsaw stuck with video, this is the first time Billy the Puppet shows up in person to deliver the rules of the game. In past films he's only appeared to offer warnings or congratulations messages.
  4. One more first: this is the first time a Saw film has reused a trap from a previous installment - in this case, the Reverse Bear Trap. Even serial killers know recycling is in.
  5. This one's not a first for Saw so much as a first for Spain: the movie received the country's "Película X" rating for its violence. Up to that point, the rating had only been used to warn audiences about graphic sexual content.
  6. It pays to work your way up! After serving as editor on the first five Saw films, Kevin Greutert made his directorial debut with Saw VI.
  7. After finishing Saw VI, Greutert was lined up to direct Paranormal Activity 2 - but he had to drop out in order to film Saw VII. Turns out the two movies will go head to head at the box office in October 2010.
  8. Reality TV star alert! The role of Simone is played by Tanedra Howard, who scored the gig as winner of VH1's competition show Scream Queens.
  9. The perils of shooting multiple endings: co-star Costas Mandylor didn't find out whether his character lived or died until he saw a screening of the movie.
  10. To coincide with the release of the film, Lionsgate held their annual "Give 'Til It Hurts" blood drive for the American Red Cross. Hopefully the nurses weren't dressed up as Jigsaw.
