Two men set out to make a movie about war, both of whom had gazed unflinchingly at the horrors of war from the battle front. One, Oliver Stone, had been decorated for valor in Vietnam. The other, Richard Boyle, had risked his life in battle zones on four continents to report first-hand from the front lines. Together, they created a savage indictment of a cruel, repressive government which employs murderous "death squads" of national guardsmen to deal with rebels and dissidents. Based on the real experiences of journalist Richard Boyle in strife-ridden El Salvador in 1980-81.
