Robocop 2

Synopsis

The chrome-domed crime-fighter returns for this action-packed sci-fi sequel. Peter Weller reprises his role as the Prime Directive-driven cop-turned-cyborg who must now divide his time between re-discovering his inner humanity and blowing the bejesus out of a giant robotized super-criminal named Cain. Fans of the first flick will dig the explosive robot versus robot action while gorehounds will relish in the over-the-top carnage and increased body count (more than double that of the original). It's a rock'em sock'em bloody good time.

Top 10 Fun Facts

  1. The shots in "RoboCop" from RoboCop's point-of-view were reminiscent of the MS-DOS operating system, but the same shots in "RoboCop 2" looked more like an Apple Macintosh operating system. I guess "RoboCop 2" was a Mac and "RoboCop" was a PC.
  2. 'Directive 262: Avoid Orion Meetings' in "RoboCop 2" was not a reference to the constellation. Orion Pictures was the production and distribution company for "RoboCop 2." As any director knows, meetings with the studio are often best to be avoided.
  3. When the Cyborg was being reprogrammed in "RoboCop 2," you can see the numbers "50 45 54 45 20 4B 55 52 41 4E 20 49 53 20 41 20 47 52 45 41 54 20 47 55 59" flash on its screen. If you use the computer text ASCII, these "hex numbers" translate to "PETE KURAN IS A GREAT GUY." Peter Kuran was the (oh so modest) special effects photographer for "RoboCop 2."
  4. Data East created the RoboCop video games, which is why most of the games in the arcade RoboCop walks into are made by Data East. Talk about product placement.
  5. Frank Miller's RoboCop comic book series was based on his original screenplay for the film. Why wasn't the movie based on the original screenplay? Producers had it completely rewritten after declaring it "un-filmable."
  6. A Scene in "RoboCop 2" shows RoboCop displaying his new directives at a police station, via a "cable" plugged into his head. Plumbers would have recognized that he was actually wearing a water supply coupling for a toilet.
  7. Remember the scene in "RoboCop 2" when the sniper is shot through his own scope? It wasn't made up - real life Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock actually achieved this feat. He was obviously very good at his job.
  8. The Cyborg in "RoboCop 2" was given a number of new directives including 'DIRECTIVE 248: Don't say that you are always prompt when you are not' and 'DIRECTIVE 261: Talk things out.' Some wives give the exact same directives to their husbands.
  9. Many non-smoking theaters used the scene where RoboCop shoots around the head of a smoker and says "Thank you for not smoking" as a public service announcement before their films.
  10. "RoboCop 2" director Irvin Kershner included his own image in his blockbuster film. However, he did not portray himself in a very positive light. His photo appears as the police examine pictures of death row inmates.
