Revenge of the Pink Panther

PG 1978 | 99 mins | Comedy Adventure

Inspector Clouseau is dead - at least, that's what the world thinks, and our beloved bumbling inspector wants to keep it that way while he investigates his own attempted murder. And there's no better way to stay "dead" than by dressing up in a series of clever disguises, from sea captain to mob boss. Sadly, this is the last Panther film Peter Sellers completed before his death in 1980.

Top 10 Fun Facts

  1. This was the final Pink Panther film Peter Sellers starred in before his death in 1980, although director Blake Edwards did piece together outtakes and archive footage of Sellers for 1982's Trail of the Pink Panther.
  2. What's in a name? In the film's trailer, the narrator refers to Inspector Clouseau as "Andre" instead of "Jacques."
  3. The signature Pink Panther theme was reworked to include a dancy bassline, electric piano and guitar solo, giving the world one more reason to hate disco.
  4. While "Pink Panther" may be in the title, the plot makes no mention of the famed pink diamond. See also: Cloverfield.
  5. This film marks the first time we see Clouseau's souped-up car, the "Silver Hornet." In case you'd like to build your own, it's a Citroën 2CV with plastic wings glued to the sides.
  6. These special effects aren't so special: when the sprinklers go off in a room Clouseau has just vacated, it's the real deal. Look for the red glass bulb that breaks just before the water is activated.
  7. While filming the Hong Kong scene where Cato steals a motor scooter, actor Burt Kwouk was chased down and arrested by a local police officer who refused to believe the crime was part of a movie.
  8. Victor/Victoria, the prequel: actress Sue Lloyd plays the cross-dressing character Claude Russo, making her a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman. Blake Edwards would go on to direct his wife Julie Andrews in a similarly baffling (and Golden Globe-winning) performance.
  9. Here, kitty kitty: the animated opening sequence for this film was created by DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, the originators of the infamous feline, after two Panther films having been drawn by Richard Williams' Studio.
  10. This was the last Pink Panther film to find success at the box office until Steve Martin took over the role of Inspector Clouseau in 2006. Don't get a big head, though, Steve - we still remember Sgt. Bilko.
