Assigned to the mysterious kidnapping of a wealthy family man, police detective Gene Reardon (Hauer) must share his investigation with his ex-wife, decorated FBI agent Wallis Longsworth (Porizkova). But as clues to the crime lead nowhere and tensions begin to mount between the once-married investigators, the story suddenly takes a mysterious and deceitful turn that points to Detective Reardon as the prime suspect in the case.
