How did Director Francis Ford Coppola follow up his hit, Apocalypse Now? He headed out to Las Vegas with the intention of filming a low-budget musical. Proving that even the best laid plans can go awry, what Coppola intended to be a little romantic film with a couple of catchy songs thrown in quickly turned into a big-budget production costing an unimaginable (for the time at least) 27 million dollars. The film tells the story of a couple who, after five years together, decide to call it quits and find themselves new romantic partners. They both have new flings but soon realize that they still love each other. Aww. Cue the Oscar-nominated song score.
