A TV journalist investigates the cold-blooded murder of Isabel La Negra, a wealthy and powerful Madame. Isabel's life story is told through a series of flashbacks from her roots as a poor, young country girl with her trusted friend, Pablo. When the man she loves marries another woman, Isabel moves in with a rich American to forget her lost love. Increasingly unhappy in this luxurious but suffocating lifestyle, she enlists Pablo's help. Though powerful and wealthy, Isabel's greatest wish, acceptance by the Church, eludes her until her ultimate death.
