John Schlesinger, the same Director that brought us Midnight Cowboy and Marathon Man, presents an interesting take on an element of classic Americana - the small town - and as the film proves, sometimes the biggest stories happen in the tiniest of places. The movie explores what happens to a miniscule community in Florida when they are denied one of the most basic needs, a highway exit, and the great lengths at which the Mayor (as well as the countless other eccentric members of the neighborhood and unwilling tourists he encounters) will go to get the town what it deserves.
