John Stratton (Robert LuPone) and Melanie "Bambi" Rose (Sally Kirkland), both live in New York, but some from different worlds. He is a driven, powerful Wall Street stockbroker. She is a stripper and a high-priced call girl. They are brought together one fateful weekend. Distraught by the suicide of a colleague, John wanders into Melanie Rose's part of town. She finds him lying in a pile of garbage, half-conscious, robbed and bleeding. When he asks for some water she reluctantly lets him into her apartment. While they are talking, a pimp bursts in, demanding the money she should have made that night. He works for the nightclub owner, "Slim" (Richard Lynch). When he starts roughing up Melanie Rose, John steps in. He overpowers the pimp and relieves him of his gun and thick wad of money. Now it is Melanie Rose's turn to seek help, and his turn to be reluctant. She must escape from Slim's domain, but first must secure the safety of her daughter.
