R 1989 | 100 mins | Horror Thriller

As party crashers go, supernatural serial killers are the worst. The senior class of Lakeview High sets sail on the SS Lazarus for a graduation party bound for New York City. Top 10 Fun Facts

  1. Original posters for the film featured Jason ripping through the iconic "I Love NY" poster with a knife - but the design was dropped after a complaint from the New York Tourism Committee. Imagine if they'd tried to put a hockey mask on the Statue of Liberty...
  2. Facing budget woes, writer/director Rob Hedden was forced to cut scenes at Madison Square Garden, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Empire State Building from his script. They kept the title, though, because "Jason Takes a Booze Cruise" wasn't quite as catchy.
  3. Also owing to the cost of shooting in New York, Times Square is the only location in the movie that's truly in Manhattan. So good luck finding that sewer with all the toxic waste.
  4. Star Kane Hodder loved the three days they spent on location in Times Square because of the crowds that would gather to see Jason Voorhees in the flesh. In fact, Hodder refused to remove his hockey mask in between takes to keep the spectators' image of Jason alive.
  5. Speaking of commitment to the part, Hodder was able to vomit on cue in the final scene after drinking several pitchers of water. Impressive, and also gross.
  6. The original script featured a scene in which Jason kicks a barking dog - but Hodder felt that was going too far. Apparently decapitating a guy using only your fist is fine, but don't mess with man's best friend.
  7. Keep your eyes peeled for some graffiti in the subway that reads "Quayton lives." That's a shout out to the band writer/director Rob Hedden was in during high school.
  8. Also a blast from Hedden's past: Toby the dog is named for a pooch the director once owned.
  9. How's this for coming full circle? The man Jason throws into a mirror in the diner scene is actor Ken Kirzinger - who would later take on the role of Jason Voorhees in Freddy vs. Jason.
  10. During filming, Part VIII used the fake name "Ashes to Ashes" to avoid interruptions from fans of the Friday the 13th series. Although the big dude in the hockey mask probably gave it away.
