Friday The 13th Part VI Jason Lives

R 1986 | 87 mins | Horror
He's baaaaaaack! In what is considered one of the best films in the franchise, this sixth installment starts with a shock (literally) as Jason Voorhees is inadvertently electrocuted back to life a la Frankenstein's monster. Resurrected with super-strength, J.V. instantly returns to his silent-but-deadly ways and heads back to the camp where his bloody saga began. It's tongue-in-cheek terror as one of the more humorous entries in the series, yet it also delivers some of the most memorable murders - including Jason slicing off the heads of three folks at once, snapping a sheriff in half, and punching Ron Palillo's heart out. That's right, Jason kills Horshack! You didn't really think Horshack stood a chance, did you?

Top 10 Fun Facts

  1. Part VI marks the first time Jason Voorhees has exhibited superhuman abilities, from invincibility to regeneration. Maybe he spent the summer at Hogwarts?
  2. The film's tagline was "Kill or be killed!" Although good luck with the killing part - see above, re: invincibility and regeneration.
  3. Hands-on director: in the scene where Tommy Jarvis opens Jason's casket, the hands we see actually belong to director Tom McLoughlin.
  4. Hands-on director's parents: the shots of Jason taking a boat propeller to the face were actually filmed in the swimming pool at Tom McLoughlin's parents' house.
  5. Watch closely: Jason's eye color changes during the film, because he was played by two different men. After the first day of shooting, the studio requested that the role be recast with someone less bulky. Hollywood, when will the body image tyranny end?!
  6. C.J. Graham, who took over the role of Jason, did all his own stunts - including being set on fire. And did we mention he was "less bulky" than the first guy?
  7. Peekaboo: when Sissy pours out her soda, there's something visible in the lower left-hand corner of the window. Is it the camera crew, or Jason waiting to jump up and grab her?
  8. The character Megan Garris mentions "Cunningham Road," named for franchise creator Sean Cunningham. Nice gesture, but let's hope he's also getting a massive chunk of the profits.
  9. Alice Cooper provided several songs for the film, including "He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask)" and "Teenage Frankenstein." Tragically, no soundtrack was ever released, but both of those songs are available on Cooper's 1986 album Constrictor.
  10. For all you bookish types, the novelization of the film includes an appearance by Jason's father Elias. You'll have to read it yourself to find out if dear old dad sports a hockey mask, too.
