  1. Eddie Izzard may sound 100 per cent like an Englishman but he was actually born in Yemen. His father had moved his family to the Arabian country while working for British Petroleum. He was only one year old when the family moved back to the UK, thus the accent.
  2. After being kicked out of his accounting program at the University of Sheffield, Eddie Izzard turned to his backup plan and took his fledgling stand up comedy routine on the road. In other words, he did not follow in his (accountant) father's footsteps.
  3. Eddie Izzard was traveling in New Zealand at the same time the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy was being filmed. Since he was such a huge fan of the books he asked the filmmakers if he could make an appearance in the production. They were not such big of fans of Izzard and his request was denied.
  4. Eddie Izzard was nominated in 1991 for The Perrier Award. The award was presented to the best shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, not for drinking the most sparkling mineral water.
  5. Eddie Izzard had a successful career as a comedian and actor in the United Kingdom for 13 years before he finally found success in the United States. Then in 2000, he killed at the Emmy awards, winning two statuettes.
  6. One of Eddie Izzard's biggest influences was Monty Python. Python alumni John Cleese dubbed Izzard the "Lost Python" during a 1999 television special.  Without the use of a time machine, the Pythons wouldn't have been able to find their Lost Python, since Izzard started performing four years after the Pythons released their final film.
  7. Eddie Izzard starred in the television drama series "The Riches." British actress Minnie Driver starred in the program as Izzard's wife. Both actors traded in their British accents for American ones to play modern day gypsy con artists on the short-lived FX TV show.
  8. Eddie Izzard has described himself as a lot of things - either a straight transvestite or a male lesbian. Either way, he enjoys wearing frocks and make-up.
