Calgary producer Kevin Scullion took on an extreme challenge in May 2006 when he put together a group of Calgary’s homeless men to participate on a soccer team with the goal of getting to the 2006 Homeless World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa. Directed by Michael Scullion, Downtown Dawgs: The Road to the Homeless World Cup tells the story of this year-long journey covering 10,000 miles and countless hurdles. The story provokes viewers to get beyond the faces and gritty life on the streets, cheer these men on and begin to see how soccer is one solution to homelessness.
