    1. David Cross began performing stand-up comedy while he was still in high school. But probably not AT high school. It's tough to get your principal to go for a two-drink minimum in study hall.
    2. Not only was Cross elected treasurer of his senior class, he was also voted "most humorous." People, we've got to stop trusting wisenheimers with our money - why do you think the economy is such a mess?
    3. After graduation, Cross worked for a lawn care company in Long Island. The pay was meager, but the wealth of future weed whacker material was priceless.
    4. Cross spent a single semester at Emerson College in Boston, where he joined the sketch comedy group This is Pathetic. We're not sure if that name also applied to his GPA.
    5. Cross later formed his own sketch comedy group in New York called Cross Comedy, a troupe of 12 tricksters known for pulling fast ones on the audience. It's a fine line between satisfied patron and sitting duck.
    6. In 1992, Cross landed his first TV gig as a writer on The Ben Stiller Show. It only lasted 13 episodes, but the experience earned him an Emmy. A few months' pay and a new trinket for your mantel? Sure beats lawn care.
    7. Perhaps even better than the Emmy, The Ben Stiller Show brought Cross together with writer Bob Odenkirk. The two would go on to create Mr. Show with Bob and David, a cult comedy hit series for HBO. Okay, maybe the Emmy was better.

Cross sparked an ongoing feud with fellow comedian Larry the Cable Guy, telling Rolling Stone that "he's in the right place at the right time for that gee-shucks, proud-to-be-a-redneck, I'm-just-a-straight-shooter-multimillionaire-in-cutoff-flannel-selling-ring-tones act." Cross also lambasted Larry with a character called "Danny the Plumber Guy."
    9. Ever the equal-opportunity critic, Cross also accused Inside the Actors Studio host James Lipton of being "pretentious." However, when the two worked together on Arrested Development, they became fast friends. So we just have to cast David and Larry the Cable Guy in a movie together and surely they'll bury the hatchet... or not.
    10. Cross' most entertaining public feud also happens to be a fictional one. He played Stephen Colbert's arch-nemesis Russ Lieber, a liberal talk radio host, on The Colbert Report. Among their many bones of contention? White pumpkins. Now that's strife we can get behind.
