Synopsis
Murder, morality, and Manhattan collide in this, one of Woody's Allen's finest works. The film blends two stories, each with their own moral dilemma. In the first, everybody's favorite neurotic New Yorker (Allen) is Cliff – an unhappily married documentarian hired by his despicably pompous brother-in-law (Alan Alda) to shoot a documentary on what else – him. The only perk – also documenting his attractive assistant (Mia Farrow). Let the emotional affair begin! Meanwhile, story #2 revolves around a successful ophthalmologist (Martin Landau) who's spurned adulteress (Anglica Huston) has suddenly gone all Fatal Attraction and is determined to inform his wife about their tryst. Realizing he has a connection to the mob, Martin's solution becomes shamefully clear – and here's a hint, it rhymes with "schmurder". Darkly comical and cleverly thought-provoking, this is classic Woody Allen... with a criminal twist.
