Clue

Synopsis

You are cordially invited to a mysterious dinner party at a creepy, old mansion. Guests include an eccentric mix of strangers with one thing in common: they're all being blackmailed. But when their extortionist is murdered before dessert, we, along with the others in attendance, try to figure out who did the dirty deed. Based on the popular board game, this campy whodunit was the first film ever to play in theaters with three different endings (and consequently three different killers). So don't jump to any conclusions about Colonel Mustard in the ballroom with the lead pipe!

Top 10 Fun Facts

  1. Colleen Camp who played Yvette, the Maid, also appeared in Valley Girl as Sarah Richman, Julie's Mom.
  2. Who did it? Colonel Mustard, Professor Plum, or Miss Scarlet?  The answer depends upon which theater you saw the movie, "Clue." Three endings were shot for the film and all of them were included on the DVD version. But, if you wanted to see each ending on the big screen, you would have had to attend the movie at three different theaters. Thankfully, most  theaters informed audience goers if they were showing "Ending A," "Ending B," or "Ending C."
  3. In the film "Clue," the gothic mansion the characters descend upon was referred to as Hill House. This was also the name of the house in the horror classic "The Haunting." Things didn't turn out well for characters in either film.
  4. There is an inscription over the fireplace shown in the film "Clue" which reads "Nouveau Riche Oblige." Loosely translated, it means, "the new rich must oblige."
  5. "Clue" was the first movie based on a board game. Other board games that will soon hit the big screen include Candy Land and Battleship, thanks to a partnership between Universal Pictures and board game giant Hasbro. Imagine the product placement opportunities.
  6. Our Lips are Sealed, Oh wait they're not. The singing telegram girl is played by Go-Go Jane Wiedlin.
  7. It is unclear where actress Eileen Brennan stands on murder mysteries. Not only did she star in the murder mystery "Clue," she also starred in the film adaptation of Neil Simon's murder mystery parody, "Murder By Death."
  8. During the kitchen scene in the beginning of the movie "Clue," the Senator McCarthy hearings can be seen playing on the television. This was one of the film's many references to the communist scare of the 1950s. I want to know how many people had TVs in their kitchens in the 1950s?
  9. "Clue" may have been actress Kellye Nakahara's feature film debut but she is best known for playing Nurse Kellye on television's M*A*S*H. In both projects, her character cleaned up after people.
  10. Near the end of the film "Clue", a microphone can be seen at the top of the screen following the butler as explains 'whodunit.' The good news is that not a word was missed. The bad news is, that for those who noticed it, it was a bit distracting.
