Casino Royale 1967

Synopsis

Long before Austin Powers spoofed the spy genre, 007 did it himself in a madcap romp of epic proportions so massive, in fact, that it took five directors and six Bonds to pull the whole thing off. Flying saucers? Check. Cavalry cavorting through a casino? Of course! An exploding Woody Allen? You bet. If this swinging send-up leaves you anything but delightfully outraged, crank up the Burt Bacharach and try pouring yourself another glass of bubbly.

Top 10 Fun Facts

  1. "Casino Royale" stars Peter Sellers and Orson Welles could not stand the sight of each other. They hated each other so much that the actors filmed their shared scenes, separately. A double was used as a stand in while the actors took turns shooting the scene.
  2. The filming of "Casino Royale" was anything but smooth sailing, thanks to Peter Sellers. The actor caused numerous interruptions in the film's schedule by leaving the set for days at a time.
  3. Orson Welles might have been a bit too tricky for his "Casino Royale" co-star Peter Sellers. Welles insisted that magic tricks be included in his scenes despite the fact that this bothered Sellers. I guess you could say, at the "Casino Royale," the relationship between Welles and Sellers was "craps!"
  4. No crying over spilt milk - in one shot the float spills it's milk in the next it's as if it never happened. Told ya not to cry!
  5. The rift between Orson Welles and Peter Sellers became a royal one upon English Princess Margaret's visit to the set of "Casino Royale." Although Sellers was a long time acquaintance of the Princess, she walked straight past him and made a huge fuss over Welles.
  6. Is that a gun in your cupboard? When Bond opens the door one minute it's there and one minute it's not.
  7. "Casino Royale" is the only James Bond movie to spawn two US Top 40 singles, the "Casino Royale Theme" by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass and "The Look of Love" by Dusty Springfield. "The Look of Love" has turned out to be a favorite among filmmakers, having found its way into many subsequent movie soundtracks, including "Catch Me if You Can."
  8. The man told to "follow that car" in "Casino Royale" was an expert in car chases. For Sir Stirling Moss, one of the greatest racecar drivers of all time, this occasion was a bit different. He chased the car on foot.
  9. In the 1967 version of "Casino Royale," agent James Bond is supplied with a super-advanced wrist-watch with a video monitor. Don't be surprised if we see this "futuristic" technology in 2010.
  10. Actor Woody Allen was allegedly surprised with all the money being spent on the production of "Casino Royale." While lounging at an expensive hotel waiting for the filmmakers to call him on set for his scenes, Allen wrote a friend, "The film will probably make a mint. Not money, but a single peppermint."
