Another 48 Hrs.

Synopsis

Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy team up for a sequel to their 1982 buddy cop flick, and once again they've got just 48 hours to crack the case. This time around Hammond and Cates are hunting down "The Ice Man," a notorious San Francisco drug lord who holds the key to clearing Cates's name in a botched standoff. The plot may retread familiar territory, but the chemistry between Murphy and Nolte is still on fire.

Top 10 Fun Facts

  1. Eddie Murphy earned $450,000 for the first 48 Hrs., and a cool seven million for the sequel. Not bad for 96 hours of work.
  2. Nick Nolte, meanwhile, merely tripled his salary from the first film - jumping from $1 million to $3 million. You know Hollywood math is skewed when a 200% pay increase seems like a raw deal.
  3. The film's tagline was "Here they go again. Only faster. And tougher." They left out "a whole lot richer."
  4. Nolte's wallet may not have been as fat as Murphy's, but he made up for it in other areas: Nolte was still carrying the extra weight he'd gained for his role in Q&A.
  5. No matter that Cates' sky blue 1964 Cadillac Deville took a header through a plate glass window in the first film - it's back and better than ever in the sequel. Nolte's character explains he bought the same make and model with his share of Reggie's loot.
  6. Someone who DIDN'T make a return appearance in the sequel: Cates' boss, played by actor Frank McRae. He actually shot some scenes, but they wound up on the cutting room floor - keep an eye out for fleeting shots of him in the police precinct.
  7. In the movie, Reggie calls a friend named Willie Biggs to try and borrow money. "Willie Biggs" was the original name of Eddie Murphy's character in the first film, before he convinced producers it sounded too much like a stereotypical black guy.
  8. Pay no attention to that license plate! Look closely at the cable car in the scenes before and after the shoot out at the Chinese hotel: the whole thing's sitting on top of a trailer complete with California plates.
  9. Reggie and Jack jump out of the backseat of a police car - impressive, considering there aren't supposed to be door handles back there.
  10. Stick around for the closing credits, because that's the only place in the sequel where you'll hear "The Boys Are Back In Town." You know you want to.
