A View To A Kill

Synopsis

If you think the James Bond franchise could use a little more cowbell, look no further. Christopher Walken steps in as evil (blond!) mastermind Max Zorin, who's hell-bent on destroying Silicon Valley. Henchwoman May Day (Grace Jones) towers at his side, with orders to take 007 down any way she can. Yikes. Roger Moore ends his reign as Bond in this 14th installment of the series, but not before offering his sexy sidekick a freshly baked quiche. Okay James, there's suave and then there's just plain trying too hard.

Top 10 Fun Facts

  1. A View to a Kill was Roger Moore's least favorite go-round as Bond. He cited numerous reasons, including the fact that he felt he was too old, the movie was too violent, and he had no chemistry with Tanya Roberts. His hatred of Grace Jones, however, topped the others. Ouch.
  2. Special permits had to be obtained to film a jump scene from the Eiffel Tower for the film A View to a Kill. Two of the film's crew could not resist the lure of the chance to jump off the famous landmark and they made their own, unauthorized jump. The men left France on a high and a low. They made the jump and they were fired for doing it.
  3. Grace Jones' screams in the mine sequence are real - no one told her that the special effect involved electric cables actually sparking around her. I wonder if Roger Moore had anything to do with that?
  4. A View to a Kill is the only James Bond film to begin with a disclaimer. After the film was completed the producers discovered that there was actually a company called Zoran, a name very similar to that of the evil organization in the film. The disclaimer was a proactive measure to prevent any claims from the not so evil Zoran fashion company.
  5. Shaun White, take note: many people say that the snowboarding in the opening sequence of A View to a Kill is what started to pique peoples' interest in the sport. Also, the filmmakers included a little piece of the song "California Girls" by The Beach Boys during the sequence - it was supposed to be ironic.
  6. The title song of the movie was called "Dance Into The Fire." It was just a coincidence, not a reference to the blaze that almost halted the film completely when the 007 stage burned to the ground.
  7. Since you could only see one side of the villain's blimp, only one side got painted. It was a more popular choice than cutting the catering budget.
  8. The premiere of A View to a Kill was held in San Francisco as a thank you for allowing them to film there.
  9. "The name's Bond, James Bond" may be the best known James Bond catchphrase, but it has only appeared in two films. Agent 007 uttered the phrase in "A View to a Kill" and "Casino Royale." In every other film, he simply says "Bond. James Bond."
  10. The follically-challenged Roger Moore had to have his hair thickened every day during the filming of A View a Kill. It would not have been fitting for the debonair secret agent to have wispy hair.
